Frequently Asked Questions

If I'm a senior, will TurboTax calculate if I have to pay provincial income tax?

TurboTax does not determine if you qualify for the provincial tax break. The province of Nova Scotia will inform you if you no longer need to pay provincial income tax.

Note that only Nova Scotian seniors who are eligible for the provincial Low Income Tax reduction and who receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) will no longer pay provincial income tax.

Although you do not need to apply for this tax break, you do need to file your income tax return each year.
