Find/Remove overrides

Certain overrides can cause your return to be ineligible for NETFILE. Others (such as the portion of CCA that you choose to claim) do not affect your ability to use NETFILE. To identify and remove the "bad" overrides while leaving others, use the Find/Remove overrides feature.

Note: Completing your return with the interview method ensures that there are no overrides on your return.

To remove NETFILE-restricting overrides:

  1. From the Edit menu, select Find/Remove overrides.
  2. Click Find Next to locate the first override.

Your cursor automatically moves to the overridden field.

  3. Click Remove Override.
The field's value is reset to the calculated amount.
Note: If the amount resets to zero, this means that you have not entered information for that field yet (see examples below).
  4. To correct the amount without creating an override, click Done, and then double-click in the field to open the proper data entry point.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until all overrides are removed.

When all NETFILE-restricting overrides are removed, the Find Next button is greyed out.

Example 1

Instead of entering his T4 (Employment income) information in the T-slips entry window, John enters it directly onto line 10100 of his T1 General form. This causes an override at line 10100. When John removes the override at line 10100, the amount resets to zero.

To enter the information correctly, John double-clicks in line 10100 to open the proper entry field for this information (in this case, the T-slip entry window) and enters his T4 information.

Example 2

Mary enters her T4 slip information in the T-slip entry window; this amount is shown at line 10100. Later, she overrides the amount at line 10100 to include income from a second T4 slip. This causes an override. When she removes the override at line 10100, the amount resets to the amount she originally entered in the T-slip window.

Mary double-clicks in line 10100 to open T-slip entry window and enters her second T4 slip there.
