To enter a different value for Québec:

A fleur de lys symbol in a field on a federal form indicates that you can enter a different value on the corresponding Québec form.

TurboTax automatically transfers tax information between the federal and provincial tax forms. However, occasionally you will enter a value on a federal form that allows a different value to be entered on the corresponding Québec form. In this situation, you can use the Québec if Different feature to enter the applicable Québec value without leaving the Federal form.

This feature can be used for dollar amounts, class codes or, in certain cases, for free-form text. See the examples in Entering this Amount, for more information.

When you see this symbol in a field on a form:

  1. Click in the field on the federal form.
  2. Click OK to close the information dialog box that appears.
  3. Enter the federal amount and then from the Edit menu, choose Québec if Different.
  4. To enter the same value on both your federal and your Québec forms, simply click OK.
  5. To enter a different value on your Québec form, click Use this value on Québec Return and enter the value that you wish to appear on the Québec form.

The Québec form is updated with the different value.

Julie bought a new computer for her home office. On her Form 2125, Statement of Business or Professional Activities, she claims the computer as a Class 10 asset. TurboTax assigns a depreciation rate of 30%. However, for her Québec TP1, the computer is considered a Class 12 asset, with a depreciation rate of 100%. Julie activates the Québec if Different dialog in the class field and enters 12 in the Québec value field. TurboTax assigns a depreciation rate of 100%.
