Completing Québec Schedule S - Amount transferred by a child 18 or over enrolled in post-secondary studies

This schedule is be completed by the student, not by the parent receiving the transfer.
  1. Enter your federal and Québec income and your federal and Québec education amounts (T2202A and RL-8).

    Using the T-slips entry screen.

    TurboTax automatically calculates the amount available to transfer or carry forward.

  2. Go to the Student information page in the Deductions section of the interview.
  3. On the Student Information Page, click Sch. S (to the right of Transfer tuition to another individual (Sch. 11).
  4. Complete Schedule S. To find this form, use Form Lookup and enter the keyword Schedule S.
  5. You'll enter this information in the DEDUCTIONS & CREDITS section of the interview, under Students.

    You'll be prompted to enter your Québec information after you've entered your federal information.

Tip: If you do not transfer your unused tuition and education amounts, you can carry them forward and claim them on a future return.

What is the "Amount for full-time post-secondary studies"?

The Québec amount for full-time post-secondary studies is based on the number of school terms a student starts and completes in the year (to a maximum of 2), and is reported in box A of the RL-8 slip.

The student receives the RL-8 slip and declares the amount on his or her return. The amount of the credit is then reduced based on the student's income. The student then completes Schedule S to transfer the remaining portion to his or her father or mother.

The student does not receive any portion of the credit.
