Claiming the Registered pension plan (RPP) deduction (line 20700)

Enter the information from your T4 or T4A slips in the T-slips entry screen.

Before you enter this information, first, answer some questions in the Personal Tax Profile at the beginning of the interview.

  1. Enter amounts shown on T-slips in the T-slips entry screen.
  2. If you need to complete the worksheet (as outlined above): To find this form, use Form Lookup and enter the keyword RPP.
  3. Area A - If you have 2023 contributions that are on a receipt other than a T-slip, enter them in Area A of the worksheet.
  4. Complete Area B if you made pre-1990 past-service contributions while you were not a contributor.
    1. Line 4 - Enter the amount of undeducted contributions carried forward from 2022.
    2. Line 8 - Enter the number of years of service related to line 6. Number of years includes any portion of a calendar year. For example, if the contributions relate to service between November 1986 and February 1987, you would enter 2 as the number of years of service.)
    3. Line 9 - Enter the amount of related pre-1990 past service contributions deducted in previous years.
  5. Complete Area C if you made pre-1990 past-service contributions while you were a contributor. Enter on line 12 the amount of undeducted contributions carried forward from 2022.
  6. Complete Area D if you made current service contributions from 1976 to 1985 that were over the annual limit. Enter on line 21 the amount of undeducted contributions carried forward from 2022.
  7. Select the I was employed (includes commissions from employment) checkbox
  8. Select all the checkboxes that apply and click Continue.

    You'll enter your T-slip information in the INCOME & EXPENSES section of the interview.

TurboTax transfers the RPP deduction to line 20700 of your T1 General.
