Claim Québec Tuition or examination fees (or transfer tuition to a parent)

Enter your federal and Québec income and your federal and Québec education amounts (T2202A and RL-8).

Using the T-slips entry screen.

Your tax credit is calculated and claimed automatically when you enter your RL-8 information. To transfer unused tuition or examination fees to a parent or grandparent, follow the steps below.

This schedule is be completed by the student, not by the parent receiving the transfer.

  1. Go to the Student information page in the Deductions section of the interview.
  2. On the Student Information Page, click Sch. T (to the right of Transfer tuition to another individual (Sch. 11).
  3. To transfer unused tuition or examination fees to a parent or grandparent:
    1. Open and complete Schedule T. To find this form, use Form Lookup and enter the keyword schedule t.
      Note:

      The amount specified on line 66 is the maximum that you can transfer.

      Any amount you transfer reduces the amount available to carry forward to a future year.

  4. On the first Personal Tax Profile screen, answer Yes to the question "were you a student in 2023 or did you have student expenses for yourself in previous years?"
  5. Select all the checkboxes that apply and click Continue.
  6. To transfer tuition:
    1. You'll enter this information in the DEDUCTIONS & CREDITS section of the interview, under Students.

      You'll be prompted to enter your Québec information after you've entered your federal information.

If you want to transfer an amount for post-secondary studies, also complete Schedule S.
