View detailed summaries of the tax you are paying

TurboTax displays your refund or tax balance due in the top left corner of the interview screen.

After you have completed your return and run Review, TurboTax creates a Detailed Tax Summary. This page shows a summary of important amounts from your T1 General. It also shows the estimated amount of your GST/HST credit payments and Canada Child Benefit payments (if applicable) for the coming year.

(These features are only available after you have paid for your return).

What does the information mean?

Review these amounts to ensure that they are reasonable and approximately what you expect to see:
Change - this shows the effect that the last amount you entered had on your bottom line. This amount is positive if your refund has increased or your balance due has decreased. This amount is negative if your refund has decreased or your balance due has increased. This amount can be very useful in tax planning, such as determining the amount you should contribute to your RRSP this year.

If amounts are not what you expect, investigate further by reviewing the amounts you entered for your tax return, running the Review to check for errors, or examining the Detailed Tax Summary.

The Quick Graphs display your total and net income, tax payable or refund, and your average tax rate. These graphics make it easy to see the effect of additional RRSP contributions, tax credits, or other changes.
