Will I use up another return if I change this information?

You can freely change all personal information in your tax return except your social insurance number (SIN) without counting another return against your return limit.

You can freely change your SIN until you electronically file your tax return or print it (or any form from it) for the first time. After that, if you change your SIN, TurboTax counts another return against your return limit.

Name, SIN, and date of birth (DD/MM/YYYY)

  • Title - mandatory only for Québec residents.
  • First Name and Last Name - mandatory.
  • Initial - optional. Enter the letter only, without a period.
  • Date of Birth - mandatory, in the format DD/MM/YYYY (e.g., October 12, 1966 is entered as 12/10/1966). Be careful to enter your correct date of birth because some tax calculations depend on your age.

Process spouse's return as well?

Process spouse's return as well?

You can complete a tax return for yourself and your spouse or common-law partner at the same time. Doing so lets TurboTax optimize both returns for the lowest possible taxes.

To couple your return to your spouse's or common-law partner's return, select the Process spouse's return as well checkbox. Then fill in the information on the right half of the Personal Information window. Both taxpayers must have the same marital status and must reside in the same province.

Note: If you and your partner do not prepare your returns together, make sure you enter his or her net income on your T1 General (the amount from line 23600 of his or her return, or the amount that it would be if he or she filed a return), even if it is zero. The CRA requires this amount to calculate the GST/HST credit and other credits.

If you were previously married or living common-law and your tax returns were prepared together, but you divorced, separated, or widowed, you can uncouple a previously coupled return. However, some calculations depend on marital status, so review your return before and after you do.
