Changes in marital status - enter using forms

If your marital status changed only once during 2023, enter the day and month of the change in the Personal Information window.

If your marital status changed more than once during 2023, or if your status changed again in 2024, follow the steps below to enter additional changes.

  1. In the Personal Information window, enter the day and month of the change in 2023 that was closest to the end of the year. This date, along with your marital status at the end of the year, transfers to the Personal Information worksheet.
  2. In the Changes in Marital Status section of worksheet INFO, select the status that applied to you as of December 31, 2022 (the end of the previous tax year). Use the Tab key to move between fields on the form.

To find this form, use Form Lookup and enter the keyword info.

Note: You are still considered to be married or living common-law if, for any period in the year, you were separated for less than 90 days because of a breakdown in the relationship.
  3. The date of the change that you entered in the Personal Information window appears at line A.
    • If your marital status changed more than once during 2023, give the details of the earlier change in the area called Additional Marital Information.
    • If your marital status changed in 2024, give the details in the space provided. Although this is not the tax year for which you are filing your return, this change may affect the CCB and GST/HST credit.
For example: Annie separated from Dave in 2021. Their divorce became final on January 20, 2023. Annie married Bob on December 18, 2023.
